A Brief Update on Activities and Major Projects on Psoriasis in Mainland China
There are several new developments in China so far. In the field of basic research area, Chinese dermatologists focus on genetic study of psoriasis and found many important susceptibility genes by GWAS study and the interactions between those genes in the population. We have also involved deeply in the immunological and inflammatory mechanism as well as other different aspects of pathogenesis of psoriasis.
In the field of psoriasis epidemiology, we have recently finished a national epidemiological study of psoriasis in China through 56 hospital based investigation of large samples and multiple centers in 33 cities of China. Those epidemiological data are very important for our future therapeutic strategy.
In the field of clinical medicine, in 2008 we had organized a national chinese task-force team and published the first guildline for the treatment of psoriasis for all dermatologists all over the mainland. After three years of clinical practice, we have accumulated many new data and further revised the old edition and prepare to publish the new edition to adapt to the new situation. In addition, we also started many national projects for many clinical trials from 2010 to accumulate the more evidence-based medical data for many traditional Chinese medicine, which were effective clinically in the treatment of psoriasis in different clinical patterns. We have also tried many new biologics from home and abroad for their efficacy and safety to meet the needs of severe patients.
